HLISeattle partners with the Lao Ministry of Health to train health workers in Lao PDR. Under the terms of a 5-year memorandum of understanding, HLISeattle develops and delivers bi-lingual medical training that strengthens diagnostic, clinical and hospital administration skills at both provincial and rural district levels. Medical Education Content Areas In its efforts to build Lao medical workforce capacity at all levels, the Lao Ministry of Health requested HLISeattle training in three distinct areas:

  • Designing assessment tools and training programs with host-country healthcare leaders
  • Delivering professional emergency clinical and leadership training in best practices
  • Engaging Lao medical professionals as co-teachers and leaving them with curriculum materials they can use to extend the reach of the training after the Health Leadership team leaves
  • Producing, publishing and distributing culturally and linguistically appropriate health curricula and training materials
  • Providing health professionals with medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes and portable ultrasound machines
  • Utilizing technology and media to empower local people to tell their stories and to document healthcare improvement
